About Our Camp

Brig. Gen.
Stand Waite
Brig. General Stand Watie is the oldest camp (chapter) within Oklahoma. It was chartered on February 12, 1970. The Camp is
named for the only American Indian to rise to the rank of a
general officer in either the Confederate or Union armies
during the War Between the States.
Brig. Gen. Stand Watie boasts many highly important
projects. The Camp was responsible for raising funds for the
complete renovation of the Confederate Memorial Room at the
Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City. Stand
Watie
Camp also brought the first full scale reenactment of a War
Between the States battle to Oklahoma; the 125th Anniversary
Battle of Honey Springs. Its members have provided historical
research assistance to authors throughout the nation on
Oklahoma's participation in the War and our territory's
principle participants.
Such accomplishments make the
Camp motto, "Leadership and' the Pursuit of Excellence,
" a meaningful statement.
Brig. Gen. Stand Watie is incorporated as an educational, non-profit
organization in the State of Oklahoma. It is also recognized
as an educational, non-profit organization by the Internal
